The Kannada film industry heave a sigh of relief after the Karnataka Government has withdrawn the weekend curfew. With the weekend curfew lifted, many new Kannada films are likely to release in the coming days.
Due to a steep rise in the Covid 19 cases, the Karnataka Government had imposed night and weekend curfews. It had also restricted the screening in theaters for 50 percent occupancy of audience with effect from the 06th to 19th of January.
Though the Kannada film industry was not much affected by the 50 percent occupancy, night and weekend curfew had its own effect on the industry. Many makers feared to release their films, as it would affect collections. Only one film called ‘Namma Bharatha’ got released in January so far. With no new anticipated releases, more than 500 theaters in Karnataka have closed down in the past few days.
With the Government revoking the weekend curfew, many makers have heaved a sigh of relief and are planning to release their films. New Kannada films including Yogi starrer ‘Ombattane Dikku’ and ‘DNA’ are releasing next week and many more are likely to follow the same.
