Rajamouli’s protégé Ashwin to direct ‘1770’ based on ‘Anandamath’

SS Rajamouli’s protégé Ashwin Gangaraju’ is all set to direct his Magnum Opus called ‘1770’ which is based on Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s Bengali novel ‘Anandamath’. ‘1770’ is a Pan Indian film to be released simultaneously in five languages including Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

‘1770’ is being produced by Shailendra Kumar, Sujay Kutty, Krishna Kumar B and Suraj Sharma jointly under SS1 Entertainment and PK Entertainment and a motion poster was released marking the 150 years of Vande Mataram.

Ashwin Gangaraju had assisted S.S. Rajamouli in ‘Eega’ and ‘Baahubali 1 & 2’. He made his debut as director with critically acclaimed ‘Aakashvani’ in 2021. Speaking about the film, ‘This subject was a huge challenge for me, but with legendary V Vijayendra Prasad writing the adapted story and screenplay, I think what we have blockbuster cinematic experience on paper. As a filmmaker, I’m more drawn towards the stories which have periodic setups, bigger emotions, scope for larger than life action etc and this is something that sits in perfectly for me’ says Ashwin Gangaraju.

This year also marks 150 years of Vande Mataram, the song that appeared first in Bankim Chandra’s novel Anandamath, which almost shook the roots of the British Empire. India’s most celebrated storyteller V Vijayendra Prasad who penned the screenplay says, ‘I feel that Vande Mataram was a magical word. It was a mantra that was given by Maharishi Bankim Chandra for a nation to unite against tyranny and injustice. In ‘1770’, we tell the story of unknown warriors who ignited the fire of the freedom movement’ says Vijayendra Prasad.

‘1770’ is currently in pre-production stage and the team will be finalizing the main lead before Dasara and by Deepavali, the star cast and technicians will be announced officially.
