Puneeth Rajkumar’s eyes donated to four people

In a first of its kind in Karnataka, Sandalwood actor Puneeth Rajkumar’s eyes have been donated to four people using advanced technique.

Dr. Bhujanga Shetty, Chairman and Managing Director of Narayana Nethralaya announced during a press conference on Monday that Puneeth’s eyes have been donated to four people.

‘Puneeth has followed in the footsteps of his father Dr Rajkumar and mother Parvathamma Rajkumar and has donated his eyes. In the midst of a great tragedy, the family of Puneeth agreed to donate his eyes. We collected the eyes of Puneeth on Friday and the transplant was conducted the very next day’ Dr Shetty said.

Dr Shetty said that this technique has been used for the very first time in the Karnataka. The cornea of each eye was sliced in half, with the front portion of given to one beneficiary and the second to another. ‘If the eyes are in good condition, they can be donated to four people. All the beneficiaries are doing well’ said the famous Opthalmologist.

Puneeth Rajkumar (46) who breathed his last on Friday due to a massive heart attack was cremated with State Honours on Sunday. Puneeth was laid to rest at the Kanteerava Studios, next to his father and mother, the late Dr Rajkumar and Parvathamma Rajkumar’s burial place.
