The shooting for Maniratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ has been completed and the film is all set to hit the screens in summer 2022.

Recently, actress Aishwarya Rai who has wrapped up the shooting along with others took to Instagram and shared a poster of the film to announce that the first part of the period drama is complete and the film will be releasing next year.

After the lockdown regulations were eased around the country, Maniratnam started shooting for the film with Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Karthi, Prakash Raj and others. The team shot in Pondicherry, Hyderabad and other places. Many scenes and songs were shot in this schedule.

Aishwarya Rai is said to be playing a double role in this film and a photo of her from the sets were leaked.

 ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is adapted from Kalki’s popular Tamil novel of the same name. Though many including attempted to make this film, none could succeed to various reasons and now Maniratnam is all set to bring the golden era on screen. He has assembled an ensemble star cast for the film including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Trisha, Sarath Kumar, Parthiban, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, Rahaman, Jayam Ravi amongst others. Lyca Productions which had earlier produced ‘Kaththi’, ‘Khaidi No 150’, ‘Vada Chennai’, ‘2.0’, ‘Kaappan’ amongst others is producing the film along with Madras Talkies.
