Tamil film ‘Koozhangal’ (Pebbles) directed by debutante P S Vinodraj has been selected as India’s official entry for the 2022 Oscar Awards. The film is produced and presented by director Vignesh Shivan and actress Nayanathara.

Vignesh Shivan himself took to twitter to announce the film’s entry to the Oscar race. ‘Two steps away from a dream come true moment in our lives. Can’t be prouder, happier and content’ wrote Vinesh Shivan.

‘Koozhangal’ has been selected from a list of 14 films which includes Malayalam film ‘Nayattu’, Hindi’s ‘Sardar Udham’, ‘Sherni’ and others. The film which is a novel effort from newcomers beat all the films to be India’s official entry for the Oscars. The film has already won a few awards at various International Film Festivals.

The story is based on a real life incident of the director’s family which inspired him to direct the film. The film is shot near Melur in Madurai and stars Chellapandi, Karuththadaiyaan and others in prominent roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music for the film.
