Many Kannada film producers who have released their films in the recent times were not lucky enough to get back their money. But Dhananjay who is fondly known as ‘Dolly’ Dhananjay is said to have made a cool 15 crores profit from his maiden production ‘Badava Rascal’.
‘Badava Rascal’ helmed by debutante director Shankar Guru got released across Karnataka on the 24th of December. The film got a huge opening and response from all over. Dhananjay saw to it that he visited many theaters across Karnataka and promoted the film thoroughly. In spite of other films getting released at the same time, ‘Badava Rascal’ was strong at the box-office and got a good collection all over.
Though Dhananjay says he doesn’t know anything about the film’s collections and is yet to look onto it, sources say the actor turned producer got a good profit of 15 crores from his maiden film itself. The film is said to have collected a 15 plus crores at the the box-office, out of which Dhananjay gets a share of 10 crores after deducting distribution commission, theater rent and others.
Moreover, he is said to have got a five plus crores from satellite and digital rights, which is said to be the highest in his career. The theatrical collection as well as the amount from satellite and digital rights adds up to 15 crores.
Before the release, Dhananjay was skeptical whether the film will be liked by the audience, as none of his solo films have become a hit so far in his career. But ‘Badava Rascal’ not only got good response all over, but also fetched Dhananjay a good return of taking the risk of being a producer.
‘Badava Rascal’ stars Dhananjay along with Amrutha Iyengar, Rangayana Raghu, Tara, Nagabhushan, Guruprasad and others in prominent roles. Vasuki has composed the music, while Preetha Jayaraman has handled the cinematography.
